REDDING REPUBLICAN TOWN COMMITTEE MINUTES
The meeting was called to order at 8:02 p.m. Attendance: Dick
Emerson Guests: Rob Sobelman from Congressman Shays' campaign. Minutes Upon motion, the minutes of the July 10, 2006 meeting were approved unanimously with the addition of Dick Emerson as being in attendance at that meeting. Treasurer's Report: The Treasurer's report was accepted unanimously. Report from Congressman Shays' Campaign: Rob Sobelman reported on behalf of the Shays campaign. Mr. Sobelman discussed campaign strategy and thanked the Redding RTC for its fundraising efforts and outstanding work on behalf of the Shays campaign. Tom Derderian, the Redding Coordinator for the Shays campaign, and the Chairman of the RTC Publicity Committee, reported on the recent Shays coordinators' meeting. He discussed interesting data collected by the Shays campaign, strategy for the fall, and stressed the importance of the 4th district race. RTC Pig Roast and Other Fundraising: The Pig Roast will be held on October 15, 2006 and will honor Hank Bielawa. The RTC has received approval from the Boys and Girls' Club and the Health Department. Christine Polio, Chairman of the Events Committee, discussed the specifics of the catering services for the roast. The RTC requested that Rob Sobelman schedule Congressman Shays to attend the Pig Roast. The RTC also discussed other fundraising efforts for the fall campaign. The RTC debated the nature and tone of the efforts. Senator Judi Freedman's Campaign: Christine Polio is Senator Freedman's Redding coordinator. There will be a fundraising even for Senator Freedman on September 16, 2006. Details of the event were not yet available. Cathy Cook's Campaign for State Controller: There will be a fundraising event for Cathy Cook on September 18, 2006. Region 9 Board: Ward Mazzucco reported that he attended a recent meeting of the Region 9 Board and spoke in favor of conducting a forensic audit of the Barlow project as had been promised by the Board during the recent referendum. Mr. Mazzucco reported that there were a few "weak" words of support from Board members who seemed to agree that an audit should be conducted following the resolution of the legal cases facing the Board. Alan Schlessinger's Campaign for United States Senate: The RTC discussed the upcoming three-way senate race. The RTC voted unanimously to cancel the fundraiser for Mr. Schlessinger that had been scheduled for September. Easton RTC: Ward Mazzucco reported that the Easton RTC had elected a new Chairman, Hugh Barry. Ward and Hugh have discussed closer cooperation between the two town committees. Phil Gallagher's Campaign for State Representative: David Lewson, Phil Gallagher's Redding Coordinator, reported that Phil Gallagher was working hard to keep Hank Bielawa's seat in Republican hands. He reported on Mr. Gallagher's campaign efforts and opportunities to assist the campaign. Mr. Gallagher will be at the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department dinner and the RTC Pig Roast. There will be a fundraiser for Phil Gallagher at Molly Darcy's in Danbury on September 24, 2006. Candidates: Ward Mazzucco addressed issues concerning candidates for the Redding and Region 9 Boards of Education, Treasurer, and other offices. Other Announcements: Burdin Hickok discussed "Falcon Pride", and organization raising money to build a new stadium and athletic facilities at Barlow. On August 29, 2006 the Region 9 Board will decide whether to accept the donation of the facilities from Falcon Pride. There will also be zoning issues to be addressed.
