MINUTES

The Chairman, Ward Mazzucco, called the meeting to order at 7:34 PM.

Minutes of December Meeting were approved without changes.

Treasurer's report by Gary Miyashiro:

  1. We have $1,178 in RTC bank account.
  2. Reminded all of voluntary 2004 dues of $50/RTC member. Larger donations are of course welcomed and appreciated.

Andrea Cotton, on behalf of the Vacancy Committee:

  1. Presented the Vacancy Committee proposed RTC slate for the caucus. Hank Bielawa moved that the RTC accept the slate as proposed. Motion passed. Unanimous.
  2. Announced that the Planning Commission anticipates a vacancy. Larry Matte moved that Don Stroetzel be the RTC recommendation for this vacancy. Motion passed. Unanimous.
  3. Announced that Burdin Hickok has been appointed by the Board of Selectmen to fill a vacancy on the Board of Ethics. A Board of Ethics alternate vacancy remains. Burdin Hickok moved that Larry Matte be the RTC recommendation for alternate. Motion passed. Unanimous.

Andrea Cotton reported on the new Republican Women's Club of Weston, Easton, and Redding. Please contact her for information.

Chris Polio, on behalf of the Events Committee, reported on the Kudlow event:

  1. Date is Saturday, March 13, 2004 from 6 to 8:30 PM
  2. Location is the Redding Country Club
  3. Cost is $50/single, $80/couple
  4. Information will be sent to the Pilot as well as Letters to the Editor to advertise this event.
  5. Will be sending out invitations as well as using posters

The Hon. Natalie Ketcham announced:

  1. The date of the Georgetown Master Plan Workshop has been changed to Thursday, 22 January so as not to conflict with the Board of Ed Budget Workshop on 15 January.
  2. Congressman Chris Shays will be holding a community meeting at 7 PM at Town Hall on Tuesday, 13 January. Please try to attend as it is important to show our support.

Ward Mazzucco reported:

  1. Spencer Brown is putting him in touch with the person who designed the Westport RTC website. Please take a look at WestportRepublicans.com.
  2. State Central is planning candidate workshops again this year.
  3. The Governor has invited Town Chairs up to Hartford to meet with him next Wednesday. Ward can't attend. Norma Riess will try to attend on our behalf.
  4. We need a Redding coordinator for Chris Shays. Please contact Ward with interest.
  5. The student trip to Washington will take place June 20-25 this year. The cost is $725 per participant and the RTC has historically provided a subsidy. Please contact Ward for an application.

Ward Mazzucco reminded all to please review the RTC By-Laws so that we can discuss and take action at our next meeting.

The Hon. Hank Bielawa:

  1. Reported that he will be meeting with the Governor tomorrow morning. He is happy to relay on to him any thoughts you may have.
  2. Announced that the new legislative session will start on 4 February. So far, the legislature is pre-occupied with the Governor's troubles.
  3. Asked and expressed appreciation for RTC support for his re-election this year.

David Lewson reported that the groundwork is being laid for Hank's re-election campaign including:

  1. The Koch's have once again graciously offered to host a fundraiser for Hank.
  2. Chris Polio has volunteered to do treasurer's work.
  3. Gerry Casiello has once again volunteered to be Hank's Redding Coordinator.

Ward Mazzucco reminded all of upcoming election for RTC officers. There will be vacancies for Vice Chairman and for Secretary. Please contact Ward with interest.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:01 PM and was immediately followed by the Redding Republican Caucus.
