MINUTES


Ward Mazzucco called the meeting to order at 8:08 PM. Minutes of the April 25 meeting were approved. Minutes of the May 25 meeting were approved as corrected June 7 minutes were approved as corrected.

Ward updated the fund raising letter results. 439 letters were mailed and an additional 85 letters were delivered to Meadow Ridge. Ward suggested that future solicitations to Meadow Ridge should be mailed. Currently there have been 18 responses totaling $1765.00 in contributions.

Andrea Cotton made the motion to give $500 to Judy Freedman's campaign immediately. Seconded by Christine Polio. Motion passed.

Don Takacs made the motion to give$500 to Hank Bielawa's campaign. Motion was approved.

Recommendation from the vacancy committee to invite Christine Kearney to join the RTC. Motion made by Gerry Casiello. Seconded by Peggy Sullivan. Approved.

Jack Orchulli, candidate for US Senate against Christopher Dodd was introduced and spoke to the committee members.

Report from State Central regarding the step down of Former Governor Rowland and the transition to Governor Jodi Rell.

Hank Bielawa commented on the installation of Jodi Rell as Governor.

Natalie Ketcham - Update on the CL&P transition station location discussion. Continues to be a very sensitive issue for those families living near the 2 locations approved by the siting council. No decision yet on final location. ATT cell towers: Meadow ridge has agreed to be a site and would enter into a lease if approved by ATT.

Campaign Committee report, Julian Kien:

  • GOTV(Get out the Vote). Asking for locations to place signs for the upcoming November elections.
  • Offerings of homes for coffees and fundraisers
  • Discussion of how to involve more young people in town in Republican politics. From that discussion a graduate of Barlow and recent graduate of Franklin and Marshall, Tom Morrison, has mentioned his interest in leading an effort to generate interest among Barlow students in Republican politics.

Tom Derderian proposed to have Tom Morrison as youth liaison for the RTC. Motion passed.

Further discussion included the idea of that the RTC should develop an educational/informational program directed at Barlow students, perhaps bipartisan and include the DTC.

  • Need for 3 coordinators with State Central:
    • Door to door
    • Phone bank
    • Absentee ballots
    • Details of duties to follow.

Andrea Cotton: Fundraiser for Judi Freedman. Brunch on Sunday August 22 at 11 Diamond Hill Road, Koch home; 12:30 - 3:30. $100/person, $150 /couple.

Charlie Eichhorn reported that the DTC has three monetary awards given annually to Barlow students. The RTC will follow up with discussion as whether the RTC membership will create student awards at Barlow.

Following executive session Julie Gorman was nominated by the RTC members for appointment to Redding Board of Education to fill a vacancy created by the departure of Bill Alvarez.
