MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by Temporary Chairman Ward Mazzucco.

Notice of Meeting was then read into the record by Temporary Secretary Michael Thompson.

Rules Committee Report

Rules Committee Report
The Temporary Chairman then appointed John Shaban (chairman), Richard Emerson, and Urs Furrer to serve on the Rules Committee. After a brief recess, John Shaban, Chairman of the Rules Committee, read the proposed procedural rules for the caucus. Chairman Shaban then moved to approve the rules as presented, which was seconded by Tom Derderian. No discussion. Unanimously passed.

Election of Caucus Chairman

Richard Emerson moved that Ward Mazzucco be elected Chairman of the Caucus, which was seconded by Hank Bielawa. No discussion. Unanimously passed.

Election of Caucus Secretary

Donald Takacs moved that Michael Thompson be elected Secretary of the Caucus, which was seconded by Tom Dederian. No discussion. Unanimously passed.

Endorsement of Candidates

Julie Gorman, Chair of the Vacancy Committee, discussed the recommended slate of proposed candidates for the 2009 municipal elections. Julie Gorman noted that the Republican Town Committee (the "RTC") had submitted the following slate of candidates:

First Selectman Natalie Ketcham
Selectman Donald Takacs
Town Clerk Michele Grande (D) cross endorsed

Tax Collector Pat Moisio
Treasurer Hank Bielawa
Board of Assessment Appeals Greg Stackpole
Board of Finance Francis DeSalvo
Board of Finance Ward Mazzucco
Board of Finance Rand Guffey (to complete four year term)

Planning Commission Michael Bakanas
Planning Commission Thomas Flagg
Zoning Commission John Shaban
Zoning Board of Appeals Henry Polio
Alternate R. Bruce Given
Alternate Trevor Furrer

Redding Board of Education Jess Gaspar
Redding Board of Education Lewis Goldberg
Region 9 Board of Education Joseph Macchio

A discussion ensued regarding the recommended slate of candidates. Julie Gorman then moved that the Caucus endorse the slate of candidates, which was seconded by Frank Taylor. Chairman Mazzucco asked if there were any other nominations. None were put forward. The motion to endorse the slate of candidates as recommended by the RTC passed unanimously.

Vacancy Committee

The caucus then discussed what procedure would be followed to fill vacancies if an endorsed candidate withdraws or is unable to run. Michael Thompson moved that the current Vacancy Committee of the RTC nominate replacement candidate(s) if a vacancy occurs between now and when the slate of proposed candidates is voted on in November, which was seconded. No discussion. The motion passed unanimously.

Adjournment

Ward Mazzucco then made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded. The motion unanimously passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
