Following these caucus nominations the meeting proceeded with regular monthly business.

Judy Friedman: Judy mentioned that her candidacy is contested by a Democrat (former republican) that will be aggressively pursuing the unaffiliated voter. This challenger is well funded and she expressed the need for help in her campaign.

Campaign Coordinators:

  • Janet Cianci: Will be acting as a co-coordinator with Julian Kien for Chris Shays in Redding.
  • John Shaban: expressed interest in working as coordinator for the Orchulli for Senate campaign.

Prescott Bush Dinner: June 8. Don Evans Commerce Secretary is the speaker. Ticket sales appear to be affected by Governor Roland’s inquiry.

Hank Bielawa Event: Thanks to the Koches for hosting the event and to Julie Gorman for her work. 76 people attended from Danbury and Bethel as well as Redding. Regarding Hank’s campaign David Lewson mentioned the need for a letter to the editor prior to a July 30 fund raising event in Danbury. Continue to need volunteers. They expect another event possibly in September in Bethel. Jerry Casiello offered to coordinate a letter to the editor effort.

Campaign Committee:

Andrea Cotton reviewed the results of her committee's May 17 meeting. The primary needs/goals:

  1. Need to attract the independent voter.
  2. Need to emphasize state and local elections; and coordinate with State Central. Within that focus the role of the RTC should be assist candidates with fund raising and provide local candidates with a subsidy of 50% of their campaign costs up to $500.

Fund Raising for RTC: Discussion of a fund raising letter. The past success of the “Millennium Club” letter was revisited as an effective way to raise money. A committee including Ward Mazzucco, Norma Reiss and Jerry Casiello was set up to develop a letter and envelopes would be addressed on June 7.

Publicity Committee: Tom Derderian initiated discussion around publicity for the RTC. Two ideas in particular came out of their meeting:

  1. RTC to stage an evening with Chris Shays at a location in town (to be determined) Sept/Oct event: “Meet your RTC” night. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of what republicans and the RTC contribute to the town.
  2. This led to further discussions as to an essay to be in the Pilot that describes the activity and contribution of the RTC.

Meeting adjourned 9:08.

Respectfully Submitted,
Burdin Hickok
Secretary, Redding RTC
