MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 8:01 p.m.

Attendance:

Attendance was not taken - a quorum was present.

Minutes

The RTC passed on approving minutes of the prior meeting.

Treasurer's Report:

The Treasurer's report was accepted unanimously.

Ongoing Campaign Costs:

The RTC discussed the ongoing financial needs of the fall campaign. Ward Mazzucco also informed the RTC that State Senator Judi Freedman had requested an appropriation of $300.00 to be used for a district wide newspaper ad. Later, the RTC unanimously approved the additional appropriation upon motion by Frank DeSalvo and second by Lewis Brey.

Election Phone Calls:

The RTC discussed various strategies to maximize voter turnout.

Tent:

Staffing for the tent on Election Day was discussed and gaps in the schedule were filled.

Report from Governor Rell's Campaign:

Caitlin Griffith discussed the first debate between the Governor and her opponent. She discussed campaign strategy.

Ward Mazzucco later announced that the reason the Rell campaign returned the RTC's contribution was because she does not accept contributions from political committees which includes local party committees such as the RTC.

Report from Phil Gallagher:

Mr. Gallagher discussed his door-to-door campaign effort. He announced upcoming fundraisers and described his outlook on the campaign.

Report from John Stripp:

Mr. Stripp announced that it appeared that he was going to have an opponent. He discussed Weston's efforts and fundraising in light of the challenge.

RTC Pig Roast:

Planning for the upcoming pig roast honoring Hank Bielawa was in full swing. The pig roast is to take place on October 15 at the Redding Boys and Girls Club.

Board of Education Vacancy:

Ward Mazzucco announced that there may soon be a vacancy on the Redding Board of Education that would need to be filled by a Republicans. The RTC discussed the procedural issues surrounding replacement. Ward Mazzucco asked anyone who was interested to contact Gerry Casiello, Chairman of the Vacancy Committee.

Other Announcements/Discussion:

Ward Mazzucco asked the RTC whether it would like to take a position on the proposed Falcon Pride project. RTC members discussed whether it was appropriate to do so, and whether such a discussion should occur at this stage. The sense of the discussion was that the matter would be addressed at a future meeting, if at all.

Next Meeting:

The next meeting of the RTC will be on November 6, 2006 beginning at 7 p.m. It may be necessary to hold a meeting on November 13 should the Vacancy Committee decide on a replacement for any impending opening on the Redding Board of Education.

The meeting was adjourned by unanimous vote at 9:23 p.m.
