The 2007 PLATFORM
of the
REDDING REPUBLICAN PARTY
Following the precepts that Redding residents
know what is best for their community and that prudent, efficient government
is in everyone’s best interest, Redding Republicans
and their Town Committee establish the following priorities:
Retain Local Control: Since Redding residents know what is best for
their town, the Republican Town Committee supports local candidates who put
the interests of Redding first, without interference from Washington or Hartford.
We focus on the policies which are important to our community.
Promote Educational Excellence:
- We advocate an excellent and balanced education for our children.
- We support their academic, athletic, and artistic pursuits.
- We vigorously support a challenging curriculum.
- We must support and finance an outstanding staff and up-to-date facilities.
- While doing so, we challenge our boards of education to deliver all programs
efficiently. .
Maintain Fiscal Responsibility:
- In all school and town activities, we must continue to budget prudently.
- We must vigorously pursue Redding's right to an equitable share of State
and Federal services and revenues, including grants.
Set Land Use Policy:
- We favor prudent acquisitions of open space and recreational land.
- We advocate development of playing fields for athletes young and old.
- We support diverse housing opportunities, in suitable locations and in
a manner compatible with Redding's unique environment and limited infrastructure.
- In Georgetown, we will assist the town in working closely with the Gilbert
& Bennett developers and the Main Street owners to strike the proper mix
of uses.
- We must preserve, through fair and effective enforcement of our land-use
regulations, the rural character of our community.
Preserve Our History:
- We recognize the value of preserving the remnants of Redding's rich history.
- We advocate voluntary measures which encourage preservation of our historic
structures.
- We encourage the revitalization of Georgetown while maintaining its unique
character.
Promote Public Safety:
- We must continually promote the education, training, equipment and facilities
which our emergency responders need, for their safety and ours.
- We support the tax abatement program for our volunteer fire fighters
and EMT's.
Protect Our Seniors: Recognizing that seniors are an integral part
of a diverse community, we must promote the property tax abatement program
which will keep them in Redding.
Serve the Public:
- We offer candidates of skill and vision, ready to meet the short and
long term challenges and opportunities in Redding.
- We are committed to open, ethical, and accountable local government.
