The Redding Republican Town Committee supports the proposed budget

(Redding, April 21) The Redding Republican Town Committee supports the proposed budget that will be presented to voters at the May 2nd referendum and recommends that the voters approve the budget. If approved, the current mill rate will remain unchanged. "The Board of Selectman and Board of Finance have worked very hard to bring in a budget that includes no tax increase", stated Ward Mazzucco, Chairman of the Republican Town Committee. "In addition, they made sure that Redding residents would still enjoy the high level of services that we have come to expect, including a very strong school system."

Mr. Mazzucco notes that the budget includes additional revenues relating to increases in the grand list and in permits and fees paid to the Town for building and zoning permits. "Our Republican-controlled zoning and planning commissions have fostered an environment of smart growth. Additional revenues from these activities will help to keep our taxes down, not only this year, but hopefully next year as well." It should be noted that the proposed budget includes no net revenues associated with the Georgetown Land Development site. Revenues from that project will be realized in subsequent years.

"Growth in the town combined with fiscal responsibility and hard work by our administration and boards have made this possible" said First Selectman Natalie Ketcham. "I am proud to be the First Selectman of Connecticut's No. 1 Small Town."

"I applaud the Board of Finance, Board of Selectman, and the Boards of Education, all of which worked very hard on this year's budget", stated Jim Cotton, Chairman of the Board of Finance. "Prudent development along with prudent spending allowed us to achieve our goal of no tax increase this year."

The Redding Republican Town Committee urges voters to come to the referendum on May 2nd and support the budget. Voting takes place at the Redding Community Center between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm. Members of the Republican Town Committee will be available at the Community Center that day to provide additional information and to answer questions.
