2.1.2010 McMahon Brings Senatorial Campaign to Redding

Senatorial hopeful Linda McMahon visited the Redding Republican Town Committee on Monday evening to discuss her candidacy for the Republican nomination to run for the seat being vacated by Christopher Dodd against the presumed Democratic candidate, current Connecticut Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal.

Ms McMahon is a successful businessperson who last year stepped down as CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, a publicly traded company in Stamford Connecticut. She is the wife of WWF founder, Vince McMahon, and helped manage the company's growth from a 13-person operation to a global enterprise with over 500 employees.

In addition to her business, she also serves on the board of Trustees of Sacred Heart University, was appointed by Governor Jodi Rell to serve on the Connecticut Board of Education and spearheaded the creation of Get R.E.A.L. educational and literacy programs, including the company's nationwide Reading Challenge in partnership with the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the youth division of the American Library Association.

“I'm running for the United Sates Senate to change Washington's failed policies, get spending under control and put people back to work,” said McMahon. “I believe this fall's elections will be a referendum against big government. I have built a company from bankruptcy to success, and I know this: you can't spend your way out of a deficit.”

“I believe government's role in economic recovery must be to help create an environment where small businesses can succeed and grow. Small businesses have historically created 70% of new jobs - jobs that are self-sustaining and have a multiplier effect,” added McMahon.

Touching on other issues, McMahon explained that she was fully committed to strong national security, against both cap-and-trade and card check, and of the belief that real healthcare reform must address the issue of rising costs. “The legislation pending in Congress was crafted in a flawed process: negotiated in secret, without bi-partisan buy-in and without real debate. Not surprisingly, that flawed process produced a bad result: the legislation fails to reduce costs, raises taxes on small businesses, raises premiums on working families, reduces the quality of care, cuts Medicare on Connecticut's seniors, and puts government bureaucrats between doctors and patients, added McMahon.

On the issue of abortion, McMahon stated that she is pro-choice.

McMahon has pledged to self-finance the majority of her campaign and is refusing contributions from any PAC groups.

Redding RTC Vice Chairman, Lewis Brey thanked the candidate, saying “Linda McMahon presents some compelling arguments on what is needed in Washington, and her willingness to share them with us tonight will be very helpful in the Committee's eventual decision on a candidate endorsement in this very important race.”
